We explicitly teach expected behaviours aligned with our school values, supporting students to make positive choices and build respectful relationships every day.
At Mindalk Primary School, School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support is a proactive, evidence-based framework that helps us create a calm, respectful, and consistent learning environment. We explicitly teach expected behaviours aligned with our school values; Learning, Adventure, Responsibility, and Inclusion, so students understand what positive behaviour looks like in all settings. SWPBS supports both wellbeing and learning by building students’ confidence, strengthening relationships, and promoting positive choices.
Setting Clear Expectations
We establish clear, consistent behaviour expectations across all learning and play spaces, aligned with our school values of Learning, Adventure, Responsibility and Inclusion. Students know what positive behaviour looks like, sounds like, and feels like in every setting.
Explicitly Teaching Positive Behaviours
We explicitly teach behaviour just like any other part of the curriculum. Lessons, modelling, and practice help students understand how to show respect, manage emotions, solve problems, and contribute positively to their classroom and playground community.
Recognising and Reinforcing Positive Choices
We focus on noticing and celebrating positive behaviour early and often. Students are acknowledged through token systems, verbal recognition, and celebration opportunities, building motivation, confidence, and a strong culture of success and connection.
Consistent and Fair Responses to Behaviour
When behaviour does not meet expectations, we respond calmly and consistently using restorative and instructional approaches. Students are supported to reflect, rebuild relationships where needed, and learn strategies for more positive choices in the future.
SWPBS helps create a calm, predictable and supportive school environment where every student feels safe, respected, and ready to learn. By explicitly teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours, students build confidence, social skills, and strong relationships with peers and teachers. This proactive approach reduces behavioural disruptions and increases engagement in learning. Through SWPBS, students develop the skills they need to grow as responsible, resilient, and independent learners who strive to achieve their personal best.
In every classroom at Mindalk, students experience consistent routines, shared language, and predictable expectations that create a calm and supportive learning environment. Our Behaviour Matrix outlines what our school values look and sound like in different settings, helping students understand exactly what positive behaviour means. Teachers explicitly teach, model, and practise these expectations, ensuring every child feels confident, supported, and ready to learn.
